333 - Tinashe
★★★★☆
my favs: I Can See The Future, X, Bouncin', The Chase, Pasadena
This is the one I get white girl wasted to. -
Addison - Addison Rae
★★★★★
my favs: New York, Fame is a Gun, High Fashion, Headphones On
Addison takes the people's perception of her character (a shallow, vapid teenager with no capacity for 'true' art) and leans into it with tracks like Money is Everything. I have a soft spot in my heart for art that belongs to teenage girls: low-brow, inane drivel. The misogyny drives me up the fucking wall, so I will continue to rabidly defend her art until she gets co-opted in 20 years by basement-dwelling, vinyl-licking dweebs. Like the fucking Beatles did. -
Art Angels - Grimes
★★★★⯪
my favs: California, Flesh Without Blood, World Princess part II
I know she's, like, crazy now. But if only Grimes would make an album like this again. -
Biophilia - Björk
I don't know if I can really rate this one. It's unique. My parents downloaded the app on my tablet as a kid and I was changed. I remember staring at the DNA-replicating sequence that accompanied Hollow, watching it over and over, quietly losing my shit at the marvels of humanity or whatever. I must have been like seven or something. Fucked up purchase for your child. -
Born to Die (The Paradise Edition) - Lana Del Rey
★★★★☆
my favs: Born To Die, Diet Mountain Dew, Carmen, Gods & Monsters
Another childhood favourite. I've tried Lana since but no other album seems to scratch the itch. -
Caprisongs - FKA Twigs
★★★☆☆
my favs: honda (feat. pa salieu), meta angel, tears in the club (feat. the weeknd)
Even though I tend to skip half the songs on this album, I still think Twigs is a genius. -
choke enough - Oklou
★★★★★
my favs: blade bird, obvious, plague dogs, ict
I'm seeing her live in February! I just think she is so chic. I know that's the buzzword of the moment but there's seriously nothing better than being a semi-niche French experimental electronic indie artist, popping out a baby girl AND album of the year AND NO baby daddy in sight. I'm not making sense anymore. Fuckkkk I love this album. It's so quiet. Can't believe I forgot about this, but the features on this album also introduced me to underscores, one of my favourite artists. -
Club Shy Room 2 - Shygirl
★★★★☆
my favs: True Religion, Je M'appelle, F*Me
Go-to dance album. I need to listen to more of her discography. -
Comedown Machine - The Strokes
★★★★★
my favs: Tap Out, One Way Trigger, Welcome To Japan, 50/50, Happy Ending
We listened to this a lot when I was a kid. Genuinely flawless album. -
Details - Frou Frou
★★★★☆
my favs: Let Go, Psychobabble, Shh
I didn't put it together that Frou Frou was Imogen Heap for a while. Fucking shoot me or something, I don't know. I'm stupid. This will probably remain one of my most listened albums until I die. -
Fancy That - PinkPantheress
★★★★⯪
my favs: Girl Like Me, Stateside, Romeo
A mixtape, sorry, not an album. Love beep. I'm also seeing her in February!!!! I have this one on vinyl too. My first ever vinyl. Cuteeee. -
Get Up - NewJeans
★★★⯪☆
my favs: New Jeans, Get Up
The chokehold this had on me. Phew! I haven't listened to it since they broke up, because it makes me too sad. A big part of my enjoyment of this album was the pure excitement that more of it would be coming along soon, and. Well. But it's definitely had a big impact on the music that I make. -
Girl - Coco & Clair Clair
★★★★☆
my favs: Kate Spade, Our House, My Girl, Graceland
This builds on their existing repertoire in the best way. Praying they never stop making music like this, because literally no-one else is doing it like them. -
上线了 GONE GOLD - Lexie Liu
★★★★★
my favs: CHU CHU, L
I really can't give this anything less than five stars due to the sheer amount I played it. Back in high school, I used to work at a chocolate shop, where I would be left alone for vast periods of time with literally nothing to do. So I'd put this album on and dance and sing to it in the shop, because nobody ever came in anyway. -
Halcyon Days - Ellie Goulding
★★☆☆☆
my favs: My Blood, Only You, Halcyon, Figure 8, Hanging On
Another nostalgia pick. I'm not gonna pretend this one is great, but it does make me feel like I'm in Divergent, which is often vital. -
Hotel Insomnia - For Tracy Hyde
★★★⯪☆
my favs: The First Time (Is The Last Time), Lungs, Leave The Planet
This is from my shoegaze era! Wow. Still good. -
I Believe You Liar - Megan Washington
★★★★⯪ (Disc 1 only)
my favs: Navy Blues, Rich Kids, Lover / Soldier
We only ever listened to disc 1 in the car, and I never got around to listening to disc 2! But this is great. I have a photo of a letter she wrote me when I was like 4, because I loved this album so much and my dad must have told her. I think they played gigs together for a while. And now she's Calypso in Bluey. -
MAGDALENE - FKA Twigs
★★★⯪☆ (Disc 1 only)
my favs: sad day, holy terrain, mary magdalene
Still drives me up the fucking wall! I feel insane when I listen to this. Maybe it's that feminine rage the kids are all talking about nowadays. Hmm. I saw an interview where Twigs was kind of waxing lyrical about the 'divine feminine' spirit and it turned me off of her a little. You can see a bit of that in this album. -
Miss Anthropocene - Grimes
★★★⯪☆
my favs: So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth, Delete Forever, 4AEM
I should listen to this more often! I used to, a lot. I think she kind of gives me the ick now since Musk. -
Nice Nice, Very Nice - Dan Mangan
★★★⯪☆
my favs: Road Regrets, Sold, Tina's Glorious Comeback
Very much not my usual genre. My dad and I listen to this in the car quite a bit - it reminds me of our old neighbourhood, and of learning to drive. Just some very, very good lyricism. -
Secret Garden - OH MY GIRL
★★★★☆
my favs: Love O'Clock, Sixteen, Magic
I feel crazy for putting this on here? Please tell me I'm not crazy. This is peak Christian horse girl music. Love it to bits. -
Sexy - Coco & Clair Clair
★★★⯪☆
my favs: Bad Lil Vibe, The Hills (feat. DEELA), Pop 1
Addison reheated their nachos... in a way. I absolutely adore the off-beat rapping and lazy vocals. That sounds mean if you haven't heard their music before, but it's 100% intentional, for that laissez-faire, vapid, girlish attitude. This is the part that feels most like Addison to me: GirlMusic™. -
SISTER - Frost Children
★★★⯪☆
my favs: CONTROL, WHAT IS FOREVER FOR, RADIO (feat. Kim Petras)
My first Frost Children album. I Love 2010's EDM! -
Songs for You - Tinashe
★★★★★
my favs: Life's Too Short, Save Room For Us, Perfect Crime, Know Better, Remember When
Holy fucking FUCK bro. FUCK MEEEEE. Fuck. This album has haunted me for YEARS. It's perfect. Special shout out to my favourite song of all time, Know Better. -
Speak for Yourself - Imogen Heap
★★★★★
my favs: Headlock, Goodnight and Go, Hide and Seek
I wish she made a million more albums in this exact style... so I've just been listening to this one for years. It feels made for me. Her voice is what I want mine to sound like, her production is, again, what I want mine to sound like. I keep listening over and over again and discovering new things like pass-the-parcel. Maybe part of why I feel that way is that we listened to this a lot growing up, and I had no idea. So when I rediscovered the album later, everything felt familiar. -
The Happy Star - Lexie Liu
★★★★★
my favs: MAGICIAN, MIRA, Bad Dream
So cohesive. I never skip a single track, which is rare for me (bad attention span and notoriously critical). -
The Overture & the Underscore - Sarah Blasko
★★★★★
my favs: Counting Sheep, Perfect Now, Sweetest November
Takes the cake for my favourite album name ever. If I could name my child that, I would. I've listened so much, feel like I know it so well, that it's almost like I wrote it. Like I know hidden secrets nobody else does, like I've made it my own somehow. I guess the way I perceive it has changed over the years - I used to prefer the front half as a kid. -
Twilight - bôa
★★★⯪☆
my favs: Duvet, Twilight, Elephant
Really, I only listen to those three songs above. But they're so good! -
Wallsocket - underscores
★★★★⯪
my favs: Locals (Girls like us) [with gabby start], Johnny johhny johnny, Geez louise (with henhouse!), Uncanny long arms (with Jane Remover)
This is such a fucking interesting album. First of all, it was an ARG, and I'm nowhere close to understanding any of the lore that comes with that. There is, apparently, lore. Just the story the album tells by itself is amazing, though. And I love the hyperpop and rock fusion! It's so sick. So sick. I've been listening to this for months and months and months. -
WEEDKILLER - Ashnikko
★★★★☆
my favs: You Make Me Sick!, Don't Look at It, Dying Star (feat. Ethel Cain)
I went to her show when she was touring this album, and it was so good. My first concert, I think, and I got a tour t-shirt that I wear all the fucking time. She's an amazing performer and I love these songs. -
You Knew - Mother Falcon
★★★☆☆
my favs: Marigold, Porcelain, Sleep, Dirty Summer
I went through a folk/indie phase for a while. These guys aren't really either of those, though; they're an 11-20 person symphonic rock/orchestal pop collective. Yeah. Christ. This is so good, though. I seriously recommend it if you're one of those people who 'listens to everything'. -
Disco Elysium
★★★★★
My favourite game of all time. See my shrine for more! -
Outer Wilds
★★★★★
My second-favourite game of all time. I still haven't played the DLC yet, so no spoilers! Watch this video, please, if you haven't played it yet and think there's any chance you might want to. Here are some more of my favourite YouTube videos about the game, for if you have played it: 1, 2, 3, and the Noclip documentary. -
1000xResist
★★★★★
So good. It's a walking simulator but it doesn't matter in the slightest. I had the time of my life playing this. Couldn't make up my mind about any of the characters, which is how you know it's good. -
Chants of Sennaar
★★★★★
This was my introduction to the idea of context-based language learning as a puzzle, and translation games in general! It's so polished in every aspect - the languages themselves, the story, the art. I love it dearly, and I recommend it to literally everyone because it's criminally underrated. -
Hades
★★★★★
This was my first roguelike, and my first fighting game. Actually perfect. I love Zagreus!!! -
Citizen Sleeper
★★★★⯪
I haven't played the sequel yet, but I'm so excited for it. I was recommended Citizen Sleeper after finishing Disco Elysium, and I wish I'd discovered and played it separate to that experience, because it's a great game in its own right. I think my playthrough was tainted by the 'nothing will ever be as good as Disco Elysium' post-DE depression. I really came to love the story of this in the end and the dice/RNG mechanics are extremely well-balanced. -
Heaven's Vault
★★★★⯪
Another translation game! I'm actually upset I didn't pay more attention to this one while I was playing it - I feel like I missed things by breezing past dialogue that would have made my experience better. There's a lot of depth to the conversations in this game, a lot of political goings-on I didn't really understand by the end. I'm just waiting to forget enough of the main story so that I can play it again. -
Spiritfarer
★★★★⯪
I love a good management sim. This game isn't all management, not at all, but I really enjoyed organising my boat and making food. I don't remember much about this game except for sobbing hard at the ending. It made me feel at peace with death for a little while before the anxiety crept back in. -
Limbo
★★★★⯪
Fucking terrifying game to play as a kid! What the fuck! I think this definitely contributed to my spider phobia. I had nightmares about that scene (iykyk). -
Inside
★★★★⯪
Don't remember much about this except for that it was sick af. I really enjoyed the lack of dialogue in this. It makes it so much scarier, and also introduces ambiguity that's really fun. -
Word Play
★★★★⯪
From a game design standpoint, this is really good. The polish is insane, and I love that there's a feature where you can directly petition for a word to be added to the game. So easy! Also really fun, and much easier, to play with others. -
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
★★★★☆
I got my Switch to play this back in 2020. I would literally log in every day for about a year, got my island up to like 4 stars. But the late game is kind of ass, and I hate turnips, so I stopped playing completely. I log back on sometimes to play the DLC. -
Beautiful Katamari
★★★★☆
We had this on the Xbox 360 when I was young! Hilariously difficult, but I fucking loved, and still love, the vibe of the Katamari series. Instead of actually playing the game I would just float around in space on the menu screen, or follow the Prince's NPC cousins around. I think I was too scared to play at some point because if I lost, the King would verbally berate me. Nice. -
Crash Bandicoot 4
★★★★☆
My 5-year-old brother is lowkey better than I am at this. -
Cult of the Lamb
★★★★☆
I've been playing this recently on my phone, and it's great! I think the difficulty balance is really good, and tending to the flock is great. I love management sims. But knucklebones... oh boy. I wish there was an actual, pen-and-paper (or board) game of this, but I cannot find it anywhere. I love it. I play Cult of the Lamb just to play knucklebones. I kind of have an addictive personality so as soon as I saw that you could bet coins on the games I knew this would be a problem. For a solid two weeks I would play knucklebones for literal hours on end. -
Horizon: Zero Dawn
★★★★☆
The gameplay in this is so good! And I love the story. I'm just not very good at aiming, or shooting, so combat was kinda frustrating. But I actually got close to finishing this one. I think I got scared of the final boss and called it quits... -
Hades 2
★★★★☆
I'm so torn about this! On one hand, the combat in this is miles better than the first Hades game. I didn't even know that was possible. It feels like this game contains the best possible version of every gameplay mechanic from the first one. But the story is seriously lacking - I find the characters one-dimensional, especially Melinoe. And I'm kind of not a fan of the colour palettes, either, or the witchy theme. But it's still so good! Ugh. -
Mario Kart 8
★★★★☆
I'm kind of a sweat. My current goal is to get perfect scores on every 150cc grand prix (I completed 100cc). I'm not, like, great at it, but boy have I sunk a lot of hours into this. -
Minecraft
★★★★☆
I think Minecraft was the first game I ever played that wasn't, like, a kids' iPad game. I used to have the Blockopedia, and all the little guide books! I just play on my creative world in Bedrock at the moment, but now that I have my new computer maybe I'll switch over to Java. -
Mouthwashing
★★★★☆
The only reason this is rated 4 stars instead of 5 is that the sections with the horse pissed me off. Mouthwashing is so good! I still seethe at all of the terrible, awful takes I saw online at the time this was popular. Jimmy and Curly are both fucking awful. -
Persona 5
★★★★☆
I didn't realise there was an entry condition to actually play the P5 Royal ending. I sunk something like 50 fucking hours into this, only to find out ON REDDIT that I need a certain condition by a certain point of the game to play the Royal ending at all! Which is a whole fucking other semester of content, that I PAID for! And I DON'T HAVE ANY SAVES PRIOR TO THE POINT OF NO RETURN. The SILENT point of no return, by the way. At no point in the game was this ever said. Rant aside, this was genuinely a good game, but I couldn't continue playing after I found that out. I was, and am, too fucking mad. -
Tomb Raider (2013)
★★★★☆
I love Lara Croft! I think this might be the game I've replayed the most. I was obsessed with it when I was in high school, and I still love it now. I'm better at aiming with a mouse, too, so it's definitely a lot easier on my laptop than the PlayStation. -
Rise of the Tomb Raider
★★★★☆
The Blood Ties DLC (where she explores Croft Manor) is SO GOOD. -
Sniper Elite 4
★★★★☆
I haven't finished all the levels on this yet, but it's great. I never thought I would like a game like this! I don't play any other shooters or anything, and I kind of dislike FPS, but I can get behind sniping. Holy fuck, I love stealth. Planning out routes and sniping from like 400m away. Love it! I still gotta kill Hitler though and I think that's gonna be hard. -
Wii Sports
★★★★☆
This gets a special mention because it's literally all I'd do on the Wii when I was a kid. They had boxing on there and I freaking loved it. This lowkey started my passion for martial arts. -
Zork
★★★★☆
I never got close to beating this, because holy shit, it requires so much spatial awareness. But I love text-based games and the vibes are really cool, even if I never really got anywhere. -
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey
★★★⯪☆
This was my first Assassin's Creed game, and it's... pretty good? I liked it! This is kind of what pushed me away from AAA games, though, because the sheer amount of hours you have to sink into it is horrendous. I never felt like I was getting anywhere. -
City of Secrets
★★★⯪☆
Niche, but we got this on a CD from the library. I tried it a few times, but I could never get past the sweet potato maze a couple hours in... This game has a great atmosphere. It's weird (a secret society of mole-people live underground), and steampunkish, and the gameplay, with the goal of getting your wrongly-accused friend out of jail, is basically just the horrors of bureaucracy. I remember vividly being told to get a form from this one person - I go talk to that guy, and he sends me right back to the first guy! What gives! As a kid, this seemed mind-bogglingly injust to me, and now I have a MyGov account. Sigh. -
Crypt of the Necrodancer
★★★⯪☆
I'm trying not to be an IGN reviewer here and give this a bad score, but I genuinely can't get past the second level. It's so hard. Love the idea though. -
Fez
★★★⯪☆
Amazing premise and execution, it's just really hard to keep track of where you are and what puzzles you've done! I remember being confused as a kid, so I played it again recently, and lowkey nothing has changed. Maybe I'm just dumb? -
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
★★★⯪☆
I wish Lara was gay. -
World of Horror
★★★⯪☆
Never really got into it. Mostly, I couldn't figure out how to not die in combat. -
Driver: San Francisco
★★★☆☆
I don't think you can get this one anymore, actually! This was pretty much the only driving game we had on the Xbox 360. I still think that possessing other people to drive their cars is a pretty unique mechanic. And useful, when you're trying to escape cops. -
Genshin Impact
★★★☆☆
This game had a fucking hold on me, that's for sure. I logged in every day for two years, I think, in high school, and spent a decent amount of money on it. I still love the lore and worldbuilding, but the dialogue is just excruciating to read through, and exploring and completing quests became such an overwhelming, impossible task that I just stopped playing. I'm kind of sad about it, because I don't think I'll ever be able to catch up, but I would really like to. -
Monster Prom
★★★☆☆
This is fun! I do like a good dating sim, although the concept is a little outdated - verrrry 2010s Tumblr. Not necessarily a bad thing. -
Nancy Drew: Tomb of the Lost Queen
★★★☆☆
I would have begged my parents to borrow this from the library. My first special interests ever were ancient Egypt and detectives, and this is a fucking detective game about ancient Egyptian mysteries. Fuck yeah! I wish I could play it again, but I'm pretty sure most of the Nancy Drew games aren't compatible with Windows 10 and above. -
Shadows of Doubt
★★★☆☆
This could have been so good! A procedurally generated detective game. Unfortunately, the bugs are game-breaking. I'd say half the time, my mystery was doomed to be unsolvable by some clue that went missing or was inaccessible due to bad generation. There were so many frustrating moments when playing this, but when it was good, it was so good. I think this is still in early access, so maybe they'll fix some of that stuff in 1.0. -
The Stanley Parable
★★★☆☆
People were so obsessed with this when it came out lol. Now that everything ever has copied its gimmick, it's not that funny anymore. -
Trackmania Turbo
★★★☆☆
I have fond memories of sitting on the floor with my sister with our backs against the couch, and playing this game after school, still in our uniforms. -
Balatro
★★★★★
I, too, was a victim of the 2024/25 Balatro craze. I still play this sometimes on my iPad, but I feel like I've reached my own skill ceiling. I don't think I'm getting any better without becoming an insane sweat. -
Case of the Golden Idol
★★★☆☆
I'm probably just stupid, but I found this insanely hard. I think it could have done a better job distinguishing characters from each other - most of my issues were in remembering the names of each suspect. Nevertheless, I found this fun (even if I had to look up solutions to a couple of the levels). -
Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage
★★★★☆
I'm decently good at it now, but it took me so long (like literally 4 years) to figure out how the cards worked. It seemed like one of those things you were just supposed to know. Maybe it's that the fans are cliquey, but I felt like I had to try really hard to get into this. Now that I am, though, it's great. I love rhythm games. My fingers are super sweaty though. -
Papa's Sushiria
★★★★★
I loved all the Papa's games when I was a kid - they ran on Flash and were free on CoolMathsGames, iykyk. This is by far the best one but that's definitely a contentious opinion. I'm almost finished this one (I think I'm at like Christmas or smth) on my iPad. -
Slay the Spire
★★★★☆
One point taken off because I think the art is... interesting. But I really admire the game overall. I think the way they used data in development is particularly interesting - Anthony Giovannetti at Mega Crit talks about it in this 2019 GDC session. It definitely feels very balanced as a result. I'm so shit at the game though haha I think I've only beaten it once. -
Reigns
★★★★☆
I used to play this all the time on my stupid iPhone SE. I think it's a really cool concept, I just wish you didn't run out of content so soon. -
Oxenfree
★★★★⯪
This scared the shit out of me in high school. I love the general vibe of the island, as well as all the paranormal stuff that happens. It very much feels like a classic horror film. The controls make the gameplay - mostly walking and platforming - a bit annoying, but I think it's well worth it for the dialogue. The dialogue system in Oxenfree was innovative for the time it was released - and it's still one of my favourite ways for games to do their dialogue: real-time. In Oxenfree, you can choose to cut people off in conversation, or choose not to speak. And the dialogue writing itself is really excellent - one of the few times teenagers are written well in media. -
Good Sudoku
★★★★⯪
This is kind of borderline not really a video game but thought I would still mention it as I play a lot of sudoku, and this is my favourite app. It's kind of a different experience to playing normal sudoku, that's how easy the design choices make it. It's allowed me to try much harder puzzles than I would normally, and then transfer those skills to different sites. -
Arrested Development - Michael Bluth (113)
He's so stupid I love him. I didn't even know they MADE these. -
Civil War - Iron Man (126)
Stumbled across this at an op shop. #lucky -
Across the Spiderverse - Spider-Man 2099 (1267)
I didn't know it glowed in the dark when I bought it. Creepy at night. -
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Buffy (1617)
My Buffy collection is complete for now! I really only wanted her and the boys <3 -
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Angel (1618)
-
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Spike (1619)
-
Genshin Impact - Keqing (182)
From my Genshin days lol. She's still so cute though! -
Just go look at my Letterboxd.
